Sugar Regulatory Administrator (SRA) David John Thaddeus Alba said yesterday he has “not yet” resigned after reports surfaced following allegations of illegal sugar smuggling.
An anonymous source at Malacañang said Alba tendered his resignation two weeks ago.
However, as of yesterday, the Palace had not acted on it.
Alba’s reported resignation stemmed from Senator Risa Hontiveros’ inquiry into the entry of imported sugar without proper documents.
Hontiveros has already sought the Senate to investigate.
The senator also claimed the sugar shipments entered the country before the SRA issued Sugar Order No. 4, which allowed the importation of 300,000 metric tons of sugar.
Alba replaced Hermenegildo Serafica, who resigned as SRA head in August of last year./DGB, WDJ
