The police chief of Negros Occidental’s Ilog town will be investigated in connection to the raid on an illegal gambling operation which left one person dead.

Police Captain Judesses Catalogo, Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office spokesperson, said Police Captain Thurslie Castillo will be placed on motu propio case investigation.

The probe is a standard operating procedure.

Authorities are also deepening their probe as to what really happened during the raid.

Catalogo said the investigating team will be led by the Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO-6), the Internal Affairs Service, and the National Police Commission.

During the police operation last Saturday, March 18, Castillo opened fire at the suspects after they stabbed him multiple times.

Suspect Abundio Redoble, 35 years old, a resident of the town’s Barangay Dancalan, succumbed to a gunshot wound to his chest.

The suspects, Redoble’s brother John Mark, 25 years old; Samson Tagapan, 63 years old; and a 16-year-old boy whom they have requested not to be identified, sustained gunshot wounds.

Meanwhile, Castillo sustained multiple stab wounds to his back, side, elbow, and leg.

Castillo and the three suspects were rushed to the hospital.

According to Ilog police, they conducted the operation after receiving reports of about 30 individuals allegedly playing cara y cruz or tumbo in Barangay Dancalan around 9:00 p.m./DGB, WDJ
