There was no transport paralysis in Bacolod City yesterday.

Bacolod Alliance for Commuters, Operators and Drivers Inc. President Rudy Catedral said only about 35 percent of traditional public utility jeepneys (PUJs) joined the nationwide protest.

Only PUJs plying the routes of Mansilingan, Kabugwason, Murcia, Granada, Homesite, Fortune Towne, and Santa Fe participated in the strike, he said.

Still, Catedral said their protest was still successful.

“Amon lang ginpakita sa publiko kag sa gobyerno nga naga-isa ang traditional jeepneys sa Bacolod sa panawagan sang national nga grupo nga mag-nationwide transport strike,” he said.

Mayor Alfredo Benitez said no public commuters were stranded anywhere in the city during the transport strike.

“We were worried because there was an initial report nga maupod sa strike. But, indi man tanan,” he said.

The mayor added that only a few joined the protest because the city may have a good relationship with jeepney drivers.

“We understand their situation. Amo na napangitaan ta sang solution so that we can properly implement the modernization program,” he added./MS, WDJ
