A man was wounded after he accidentally fired the gun he was cleaning at Barangay Matab-ang in Negros Occidental’s Talisay City on Sunday night, February 26.

Joel Leomillo, 46 years old, a resident of the village’s Hacienda Vista 1, was wounded as he accidentally pulled the trigger of his .45 caliber pistol, Police Lt. Abegael Donasco, Talisay City deputy police chief, said.

Leomillo was pointing his gun downwards while cleaning it. However, the bullet ricocheted to the floor and he was hit in the chest.

He was rushed to the hospital and he is in a stable condition, Donasco said.

Police recovered the victim’s .45 caliber pistol and a slug.

Donasco said the firearm has been forwarded to the Firearms and Explosives Unit of Police Regional Office in Western Visayas to find out if the gun was licensed./DGB, WDJ
