Danny Kingad of Baguio City’s Team Lakay is ready to tap into the lessons he learned from Shinya Aoki when he takes on Eko Roni Saputra at ONE Fight Night 7 this Saturday, February 25 at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Aoki, a Japanese mixed martial arts legend and former ONE world champion, paid a visit to Team Lakay last month to bond and train with its fighters. Aoki’s visit was highlighted by him teaching the Filipinos jiu-jitsu, and Kingad is ready to use all of it this weekend.

“I picked up a lot from Aoki, who makes up for his lack of size and natural strength with simple techniques we frequently overlook in training. It is an honor to have the chance to train with him. I can’t wait to showcase everything I’ve learned from him in my upcoming fight,” Kingad said.

“I know I have to watch out for his wrestling, but he should also be ready for my ground game. I’ve worked on it and several more during training camp. I’m confident I can surprise him with a thing or two in the fight,” he added.

The 27-year-old Kingad is coming off more than a year layoff and was defeated by former ONE world champion Kairat Akhmetov by unanimous decision in his last outing. Despite the hiatus, Kingad was confident that he would emerge victorious on fight night.

“I’m more than ready wherever the match goes. It can be striking, or we can take it to the ground. I know I have a lot of weapons in store for him,” Kingad said. (GMA News)
