NorthPort Batang Pier finally nailed a victory in the 2022-2023 PBA Governors’ Cup following a 115-100 domination of Terrafirma Dyip at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City yesterday.
Kevin Murphy tallied 28 points, including four triples, to go with nine rebounds, while Robert Bolick, Jr. added 26 markers, nine rebounds and six assists as the Batang Pier improved to a 1-6 win-loss slate.
Rookie John Michael Calma posted a career-best 18 points along with nine rebounds, as Joshua Munzon contributed 17 markers, with four outside conversions, in his first game against his former team, Terrafirma.
The Batang Pier were dominant in the first two quarters behind Murphy and Bolick as they built a 61-47 halftime lead, but the Dyip countered with a huge run to cut the deficit to 69-72 midway in the third quarter.
However, NorthPort responded with inside conversions from Murphy and Munzon and three-point connections from Bolick and Munzon to reestablish an 88-80 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Dyip came to within six points in the fourth quarter, but the Batang Pier pulled away anew via inside connections from Calma and triples by Munzon, Negrense Jeffrei Chan, Ilonggo Juan Paolo Taha, and Murphy for its largest lead of 115-98.
Jordan Williams top-scored with 25 points, Juan Miguel Tiongson and Negrense John Paul Calvo had 18 and 12 markers, respectively, while Eric James Camson had double-double 12 points and 13 rebounds as the Dyip dropped to 2-6.
