A cop and a jail officer of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) were shot dead while responding to a shooting incident in Negros Oriental’s Bayawan City on Saturday night, February 18.

The fatalities were patrolman Rhulin Mar Abrasaldo of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 7, and 55-year-old Edwin Laag, a jail officer from the BJMP-Bayawan.

The wounded was identified as 56-year-old Winchita Jamin Villuz, who the two were trying to help.

According to the Bayawan City police, Villuz was shot by an unidentified individual on a motorcycle.

Abrasaldo and Laag immediately responded to the area and the gunman opened fire at them before speeding away.

They were dead on the spot, while Villuz was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Police are now investigating the incident./DGB, WDJ
