A house was destroyed in a fire at Barangay Zone 1’s Purok Malipayon in Negros Occidental’s Cadiz City early Saturday morning, February 11.

Cadiz City Fire Marshall, Inspector Joseph Gatilago said they received the fire call around 2:00 a.m.

The house belonged to 22-year-old Mariel Malinao.

Firefighters managed to put out the blaze, but the house was completely gutted as it was made of light materials.

Based on initial investigation, the fire originated from the room of Malinao’s younger brother, John Benedict.

Gatilago said investigators believe the fire may have been caused by an unattended lighted candle.

No one was hurt in the incident, although damage was pegged at P120,000./DGB, WDJ
