Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said yesterday that the proposed bulk water project by the provincial government could be the answer to Bacolod City’s current water woes.

Lacson made the response after the Bacolod City Water District (Baciwa) declined to cooperate with the public-private partnership’s bulk water project.

He added that Baciwa is still confident they will have a water supply for the next three years.

According to Lacson, if the water district continues to insist on declining cooperation with the project, then they need to make sure that they will still have a reliable water source to supply their consumers three years from now.

The governor also admitted that their rejection could be a setback to the province’s bulk water project.

He added they will weigh in on some other possible options.

Lacson is also hopeful that Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Benitez will intervene following a recent meeting with the new investor.

“As I said, this water that we are supplying will be available three years down the line,” Lacson added./DGB, WDJ
