Anyang beats Suwon in KBL

Rhenz Abando was scoreless in his return as Anyang KGC Ginseng Corporation scored an 87-84 win over Suwon KT Sonic Boom in the 2022-2023 Korean Basketball League (KBL) at the Suwon KT Arena on Monday night, February 6.

Abando, a former University of Santo Tomas and Colegio de San Juan de Letran star, missed all his three field goal attempts in over four minutes of action in his first game since the KBL All-Star break.

Omari Spellman, formerly of the Golden State Warriors, tallied 40 points, including seven three-pointers, while Heejong Yang and Oh Se-geun had 11 and 10, respectively, as Anyang remained on top with a 28-11 slate.

Hongseok Yang finished with 24 points with three outside conversions to lead the Sonic Boom, Jarrod Jones added 23 markers and eight rebounds as Ha Yoongi chipped in 20 markers.

Former Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles winger Dave Ildefonso was held to just one point to go with three rebounds and one assist as the Sonic Boom dropped to a 17-22 slate.

Rhon Jay Abarrientos waxed hot offensively as the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus scored an 80-71 win over Ethan Alvano and Wonju DB Promy at the Ulsan Dongchun Gymnasium.

Abarrientos, a former Far Eastern University Tamaraws gunner, finished with 23 points, including seven outside conversions, as the Phoebus improved to a 23-15 win-loss slate.

Gaige Prim tallied double-double 19 markers and 14 rebounds, while Wooseok Lee and Myungjin Seo also entered double-digits in scoring with 11 and 10 markers, respectively, for the Phoebus.

Meanwhile, Calvin Epistola and Jeonju KGG Egis cruised to a lopsided 87-64 victory over Justin Gutang and Changwon LG Sakers at the Jeonju Indoor Gymnasium.

Epistola finished with just two points, two rebounds and two assists in 17 minutes as the Egis moved up to a 17-20 win-loss slate.

Gutang ended with just three points to go with six rebounds and five assists as the LG Sakers saw their win-loss record dropped to 24-14./ASC, WDJ
