Police have confirmed the body that was found early yesterday morning in Negros Oriental’s Valencia town was that of the brother of Mayor Edgar Teves, Jr., and son of former Mayor Edgar Teves Sr.

Valencia police identified the body as Don Paulo Zartega Teves, 42 years old, married, and a resident of the town’s Barangay South Poblacion.

The initial police investigation disclosed that at around 9:00 a.m., a body, wrapped in white cloth or a blanket and a plastic bag, was found at Purok 3 in Barangay Calayugan by two residents.

He was identified later by residents and some policemen who knew him.

No other details were given as further investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, Colonel Reynaldo Lizardo, acting provincial police director, said that a Scene of the Crime Operatives team was working on the case.

He said the victim reportedly had a gunshot wound behind his ear.

“I have given them instructions to dig deeper into the case, gather all vital information surrounding his death, and check security camera videos within a 500-meter radius at the place of discovery,” Lizardo said.

The motive of the incident has yet to be determined, he added. (PNA)
