Two cousins were dead on the spot after the motorcycle they were riding crashed in the back of a parked cane truck at Barangay Efigenio Lizares in Negros Occidental’s Talisay City on Sunday night, January 29.

Police identified the fatalities as 19-year-old Alvin Bendoy and 18-year-old Nathaniel Conde, both residents of Silay City’s Barangay Bagtic.

Traffic investigator Sgt. Ryan Calalas said the cousins were heading home after attending the Dinagsa Festival in Cadiz City, when they hit the rear of a parked cane truck of 28-year-old Elmer Tapalla, a resident of Negros Oriental’s Mabinay town.

The impact of the crash destroyed the motorcycle, while both victims suffered extensive injuries all over their bodies.

Calalas said Tapalla installed an early warning device.

The traffic investigator believes the cousins failed to notice the device.

Tapalla is placed in custody and awaits a decision from the victims’ families if they will press charges against him./DGB, WDJ
