Wonju prevails over Daegu in KBL

Ethan Alvano and Wonju DB Promy continued their hot streak in the 2022-2023 Korean Basketball League (KBL) after a 71-65 beating of Daegu Korea Gas Corporation Pegasus at the Wonju Sports Complex on Thursday night, January 26.

Alvano, who previously played for San Miguel Beer-Alab Pilipinas in the ASEAN Basketball League, tallied 15 points to go with eight rebounds, five assists and three steals for the Promy Sangjae Kang top-scored for the streaking Promy with 18 points, including two triples, while Dewan Hernandez added 12 markers as they notched their third straight win for a 15-20 record.

The Pegasus were slightly ahead at 21-18 after the opening quarter before the Promy turned things around in the second quarter as they outscored their opponent, 22-12, for a 40-33 halftime lead.

The Pegasus attempted to come close in the third quarter, but the Promy had their answers from Kang, Alvano and Hernandez as they maintained a 57-49 lead entering the fourth.

In the final quarter, Daegu trimmed the deficit to as low as three-points after a basket by Negrense Samjosef Belangel, but free throws by Kang preserved the win for Wonju.

Daesung Lee was the lone double-digit scorer for the Pegasus with 21 points to go with three rebounds, three assists and three steals as they dropped to a 13-20 win-loss record.

Belangel, a former member of the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, chipped in six points, four rebounds and two assists, while former PBA import Devon Scott had two points and four rebounds.

Alvano and the Promy will aim for their fourth straight victory as they face Filipino-Canadian Calvin Epistola and Jeonju KCC Egis at the Wonju Sports Complex on Saturday night, January 28.

On the other hand, Belangel and the Pegasus hope to return to their winning ways when they tangle with Rhenz Abando and the Anyang KGC Ginseng Corporation on the same day at the Anyang Indoor Gymnasium./ASC, WDJ
