Ethan Alvano and Wonju DB Promy broke their losing spell in the 2022-2023 Korean Basketball League (KBL) after an 85-82 escape over Seoul Samsung Thunders at the Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium on Saturday night, January 21.
The Filipino-American guard tallied 12 points, including a three-pointer, to go with three rebounds and two assists as the Promy halted its two-game losing skid to improve to a 13-20 slate.
Sangjae Kang led the Wonju offense with 22 points, including three triples, Dewan Hernandez added 14 markers, while Jeong Ho-young and Lenard Freeman had 11 and 10 markers, respectively.
Darral Willis top-scored with 26 points, Wonseok Lee added 17 markers, while Junghyun Lee and Dongyeop Lee ended with 14 and 11 markers, respectively, as Thunders dropped to a 10-23 slate.
Meanwhile, Dave lldefonso and Suwon KT Sonicboom could not score their second consecutive victory as they dropped a close one against Seoul SK Knights, 76-73, at the Suwon KT Arena.
Ildefonso, a member of the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles champion team, managed just five points, on two-of-three field goal shooting, to go with two rebounds as the Sonicboom dropped to 14-18.
Jamil Wonney had double-double 23 points and 12 rebounds, Seonhyung Kim added 16 markers, while Heo Il-young contributed 11 markers as the SK Knights improved to an 18-14 record.
Jarod Jones ended with double-double 26 points and 14 rebounds, Ha Yoongi also had double-double 20 points and 13 boards, while former PBA import Lester Prosper managed just three points for the Sonicboom.
Meanwhile, Rhenz Abando was curiously not lined up by the Anyang KGC Ginseng Corporation as they bowed to Goyang Carrot Jumpers, 85-65, at the Goyang Gymnasium.
Abando, the newly-crowned KBL Slam Dunk champion, was nowhere to be found in Anyang KGC’s active roster as they saw their winning streak snapped by the Carrot Jumpers./ASC, WDJ
