The Negros Occidental Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) said yesterday they have recorded damage to livestock due to the inclement weather experienced last week.
PVO head Dr. Placeda Lemana said damage to livestock was estimated at P245,000, which affected 12 villages from six cities and municipalities in the province’s third and fourth districts.
Lemana said they have previously advised raisers in the province to take precautionary measures as poor weather conditions could affect their livestock.
She said the province has several animal health centers in every district which could give technical advice and supplements to livestock raisers.
Each village in the province has a trained paraveterinarian whom they could tap for assistance, Lemana added.
Paraveterinarians are also the ones monitoring the situation in the villages for any damage.
Earlier, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist reported crop damage in the province at P30.4 million.
Based on the report, damage to rice fields was estimated at P29 million, while damage to high-value commercial crops was at P553,000.
Corn field damage has an estimated value at P136,000./DGB, WDJ
