Around 130 families from six local government units (LGUs) in Negros Occidental have been evacuated due to non-stop rains caused by a low pressure area (LPA) and a shear line, data from the provincial government revealed yesterday.

Provincial administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz said the 130 families, composed of 1,028 individuals, evacuated their homes due to the threat of flashfloods and landslides in Candoni town and the cities of Cadiz, Sagay, Talisay, Bago, and San Carlos.

Diaz also confirmed that the rains have triggered landslides in Talisay City, which destroyed a house in Barangay San Fernando.

Meanwhile, the Sagay City LGU has yet to submit their official data of the reported landslides in their locality to the Negros Occidental Command Center as of press time.

In San Carlos City, landslides have again blocked a portion of the Eco-translink Highway which connects the city to Don Salvador Benedicto town.

However, authorities were able to immediately clear up the large rocks and debris blocking the highway, Diaz said.

Earlier this week, the Provincial Disaster Management Program Division had already warned that landslides could happen due to the incessant rains generated by the LPA./DGB, WDJ
