With the holidays nearing, the price of lechon or roasted pork in Bacolod City has increased.
Loreto Toledo, a proprietor of one of the many lechon shops in the city’s Purok Lechonan in Barangay 36, said in a radio interview that the price of lechon has increased by P700 per kilo, compared to last year’s P600 per kilo.
However, it is also expected that the price will further increase from P800 to P900 per kilo prior to Christmas Day and New Year’s Day celebrations.
A whole lechon is being sold between P8,000 and P9,000.
The increase was also due to the price hike of hogs being bought from the southern part of Negros Occidental and from the neighboring Negros Oriental.
Despite the price hike, Toledo said business is still good and they are expecting more customers in the coming days./DGB, WDJ
