A member of the New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered to police at Barangay Kapitan Ramon in Negros Occidental’s Silay City on Tuesday afternoon, December 6.
The Silay City police and the Philippine Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion had been negotiating with the NPA member — a resident of Kabankalan City’s Barangay Tapi — to voluntarily surrender to the authorities.
He yielded his 12-gauge shotgun to police, as well as one rifle grenade.
The ex-NPA member is now undergoing debriefing and is expected to receive assistance under the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program./DGB, WDJ
