Beermen wallops Converge in PBA

San Miguel Beermen displayed its full arsenal as it defeated Converge FiberXers, 114-96, in Game 1 of the 2022 PBA Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinals yesterday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Jaymar Perez led the way with 25 points, including two three-point conversions, while Devon Scott added double-double 23 points and 12 rebounds as the Beermen took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.

June Mar Fajardo chipped in double-double 19 points and 16 rebounds, while Terrence Romeo and Marcio Lassiter finished with 13 and 11 markers, respectively, for the Beermen.

The Beermen went to work with early inside conversions from Perez, Scott and Fajardo for a 21-13 edge. The lead grew further in the second period behind Perez and Scott as it reached 55-32 at the half.

San Miguel Beer continued its rampage in the third quarter as the lead reached its largest at 83-52 on a Perez conversion, but Converge made its last run to cut the deficit to 98-87 via a triple by Aljun Melecio.

The Beermen went for the kill with inside hits by Fajardo and Scott to widen the lead to 103-87. The FiberXers answered with freebies by Quincy Miller but consecutive shots by Perez sealed the win for the Beermen.

Miller tallied double-double 41 points and 13 rebounds, Melecio and Justin Arana added 11 markers apiece, while Abu Tratter ended up with 10 markers for the slumping FiberXers.

The Beermen can barge its way to the semifinals round when it repeats the FiberXers on Saturday night, December 10, at the same venue.
