Bacolod City may host a sugar summit sometime in early 2023, Negros Occidental 5th District Congressman Emilio Yulo III revealed last week.

The summit was suggested by Mayor Alfredo Benitez during a meeting last Friday, December 2.

According to Yulo, considering the problems and challenges faced by the sugar industry, especially the need to make the Philippine sugar industry globally competitive and productive, there is a need to organize a summit.

The summit will gather different stakeholders and government agencies, he explained.

“Bacolod will host the summit as Negros Occidental is considered the sugar capital of the country,” he said.

He added they are also anticipating a higher demand for sugar as the whole country is now gradually returning to normal and they need to address the problem immediately to become globally competitive./DGB, WDJ
