Two soldiers were killed after they were ambushed by a group of armed individuals at Barangay Camindangan’s Sitio Camboguiot in Negros Occidental’s Sipalay City, yesterday morning.

Police identified the fatalities as Sgt. Regie Glendro and Staff Sgt. Ken Camilan, intelligence operatives of the Philippine Army’s 47th Infantry Battalion based in the neighboring Candoni town.

According to an initial investigation by the Sipalay City Police Station, the two soldiers were conducting a reconnaissance operation in the area.

Upon reaching the village’s uphill area and a blind curved portion of the road, they were ambushed by a group of armed men.

Victims sustained wounds aside from those caused by gunshots that led them to their deaths.

The Philippine Army’s 302nd Infantry Brigade has yet to release a statement as of press time.

Meanwhile, the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office released photos of which the victims sustained gunshot wounds.

“A group of armed men with unknown caliber of firearms shot both victims, hitting them on the different parts of the body that resulted in their instantaneous death,” the report said./DGB, WDJ
