Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said he has yet to receive any notice regarding the cancellation of the proposed liquified natural gas (LNG) power plant project in the province’s San Carlos City.

According to Lacson, if it was indeed canceled, then it could always be regarded as a business decision.

“I think it is incumbent upon them to make this official that they also put on hold a plan to put up an LNG plant in San Carlos City,” he pointed out.

When asked if the project was stopped due to strong opposition from environmentalists and the Diocese of San Carlos, Lacson said it is still their decision.

The proposed power plant project will supposedly be constructed inside a 49-hectare leased property in the third quarter of 2023, with completion eyed in 2024.

Reports have surfaced that the project owner decided to no longer pursue its Environmental Compliance Certificate application for the proposed project which the environmentalists claim to be their victory./DGB, WDJ
