The Bacolod Tay Tung High School (BTTHS) Thunderbolts cruised to a 2-0 start in the NOPSSCEA Season 42 secondary girls volleyball division at the University of St. La Salle Gym in Bacolod City.

The Thunderbolts, the defending champions in the category, opened their campaign with a 25-5, 25-6 sweep over Maranatha Christian Academy before following it up with a 25-11, 25-7 rout of Colegio de Santa Ana de Victorias.

Thunderbolts assistant coach Roberto Calamba said it was a good start for the school’s secondary girls volleyball team as they were able to maximize all the players in their lineup.

“This is a good start for us. We were able to rest our veteran players and give more exposure to our new players to prepare them for the bigger matches along the way,” Calamba said.

The secondary girls Thunderbolts will continue their campaign this weekend as they battle Colegio de San Agustin-Bacolod on Saturday, November 19 and St. Theresita’s Academy on Sunday, November 20.

Meanwhile, BTTHS U-12 Thunderbolts also had a winning start in the elementary girls volleyball division following a 25-3, 25-2 annihilation of Jack and Jill squad.

The volleyball squad of head coach Ralph Savellano will return to action this Sunday morning as they aim for their second consecutive victory against St. John’s Institute-Bacolod.

In secondary boys basketball on the covered courts, BTTHS cagers opened their NOPSSCEA campaign with a 117-16 manhandling of STROL.

The team of head coach Yong Despi aims to score two more victories this weekend as the Thunderbolts battle St. Scholastica’s Academy-Bacolod on Saturday and Trinity Christian School on Sunday.

“We know that the tougher matches are still upcoming for us so we refused to be carried away with this lopsided win. We will still prepare hard to maintain our perfect record this weekend,” Despi said./ASC, WDJ
