Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson revealed yesterday that Negrense scholars in Darwin, Australia want the provincial government to continue its scholarship programs.
Lacson said that these were relayed to them by the scholars during their one-week trip to the capital of the Northern Territory in Australia.
“Our scholars have no regrets about going to Darwin. They also never felt any discrimination in Darwin, which is a positive thing,” Lacson said.
He added the intention of the Negrense scholars to secure a permanent residency which would lead to citizenship.
“We will be sending more scholars next year,” Lacson said.
Currently, there are at least 30 scholars in Darwin.
The most in-demand jobs are in the health services, but they are looking for skilled workers in the construction industry./DGB, WDJ
