The price and supply of pork in Negros Occidental remains stable ahead of the holidays next month, according to the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO).
Dr. Placeda Lemana, acting PVO head, said the price of pork has not changed over the past few weeks, as supplies also remain the same.
Lemana said the pork in neighboring Iloilo province, which is currently battling an outbreak of African swine fever, has even become cheaper.
At present, the price of pork being sold in some parts of Bacolod City is averaging at P250 to P260.
“Sa Iloilo nag-barato gid ang ila ‘to nga baboy. Sa aton diri ya, na-maintain ‘ta man ang [presyo] sang baboy,” Lemana said.
When asked if Negros Occidental has enough supply of hogs for lechon for Christmas parties next month, Lemana said production of hogs in the province remains high.
She pointed out that demand for lechon is expected to increase in December, as well as the price.
Lemana also hopes that the province can meet next month’s demand, as it is capable of increasing its hog production./DGB, WDJ
