The Bacolod City-native Alvero has agreed to join the former National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities women’s volleyball champions squad after finishing her high school years with Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

“It feels like a dream come true. I have always wanted to play in any leagues in Metro Manila for college ever since I started playing volleyball,” Alvero told Watchmen Daily Journal yesterday.

“I feel grateful knowing that Enderun Colleges gave me the opportunity to showcase my talent,” she added. “I anticipate that I will learn new things and skills knowing that it’s a new environment for me.”

Helping Alvero to adjust in her new environment at the Enderun Colleges is the presence of her former Tay Tung teammates Erika Deloria, Rhean Almendralejo and Shane Carmona.

“It was also a blessing in disguise for me that I will have some familiar faces at Enderun,” Alvero said. “Iba pa din ‘yung may magiging teammates ako dun na naging teammates ko rin before sa Bacolod Tay Tung.”

“Siguro it won’t be that hard adjusting sa new team ko because andiyan silang mga ate ko sa Bacolod Tay Tung para tumulong sakin, to let me know how the system works there,” she added.

Alvero was one of the mainstays of the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts during her secondary years and has joined the squad in representing Western Visayas in Palarong Pambansa, National PRISAA and other national leagues.

Alvero, however, has often came off the bench for Thunderbolts head coach Ian Macariola but also had her shining moments when she won a best middle blocker award during 10th St. Ignatius Cup prior to the pandemic.

“What I like about Aurea is, she is always ready. She knows that there are some players ahead of her before but every time she is inserted sa laro, she always delivers. So I am happy that she is now playing in Manila,” Macariola said./ASC, WDJ
