A man was rushed to a hospital in Bacolod City on Sunday, June 26, after he was shot by riding-in-tandem gunmen along Bangga Metal in the city’s Barangay Alijis, the 13th shooting incident this month.
Police identified the victim as 31-year-old Kim Ryan Canillo, a resident of Sto. Niño in Bacolod City’s Barangay Handumanan.
Based on Police Station 7’s initial investigation, Canillo was walking along the said place talking on his mobile phone when the still unidentified gunman approached him and shot him at point blank range.
The gunman then took Canillo’s mobile phone, boarded a waiting motorcycle and sped away heading south along the Circumferential Road.
The victim was rushed to the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center following the shooting.
Police Captain Elmer Bonilla, Police Station 7 commander, said Canillo is now in stable condition and recovering from the wounds he sustained in the shooting.
Bonilla said they believe the victim had been set up in the said place as based on Canillo’s initial statement to police, he was supposed to meet someone nearby.
The police commander also considers that Canillo knows the identities of the suspects.
Police are also looking at the angle of a “love triangle” as it was discovered that Canillo was separated from his wife, but wished to return to her despite the wife was into another relationship.
Bonilla said they plan to talk with Canillo as soon as he recovers, pointing out the victim sustained a gunshot wound on his jaw and is having a difficult time giving a statement to investigators./DGB, WDJ
