Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday expressed his excitement over the possible reestablishment of the Negros Island Region (NIR).

According to Lacson, he is now seeing good things ahead for the province and just as they have manifested before the advantages of the NIR, it would still be the same reason why they would want it to proceed.

Lacson also said it is good that the NIR would be established as a law through the efforts of the congressmen.

All 11 Negros lawmakers, as well as Siquijor Congressman-elect Zaldy Villa, will jointly file a bill for the creation of the NIR on July 1.

Under the proposal, all major government agencies will set up their offices in Bacolod City, while Dumaguete City will host its extension offices.

Offices that offer social welfare services, meanwhile, will have their main regional offices located in Dumaguete City with their extension offices in Bacolod City.

The proposed bill already has the support of President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr., following his meeting with Bacolod City Mayor-elect Alfredo “Albee” Benitez./DGB, WDJ
