Jiggy’s Angels squad emerged as champions in the Savannah Community Womens 1-Day Volleyball League held over the weekend at the Georgia International Academy Covered Gym in Savannah Subdivision in Oton, Iloilo.

Led by Negrenses Melody Pons, Kiesha Bedonia and Princess Tumayao and Ilonggas Elizza Anne Aimen and Trisha Dequilla, the Jiggy’s Angels prevailed over AC-1 team in the championship game.

Pons was later hailed as the Most Valuable Player, while Dequilla was Best Middle Blocker, Tumayao was Best Setter, Bedonia was Best Outside Spiker, and Alimen was Best Server.

Also part of the Jiggy’s Angels team were Cherry Bagnate, Kieralyn Caballero, Niña Beatrice Maluto, Mika Gallardo, Kyzzera Benza, Kristel Silva, and Leanne Borja.

The AC-1 squad, meanwhile, has sisters Princess and Shauntell Nicole Pido and Athea Aposaga as among its players in the team.

It was the second consecutive championship for the Jiggy Gallo-mentored squad after also ruling the Petals Ville Women’s Open Invitational League recently.

“Chamba naman,” Gallo said in an interview with Watchmen Daily Journal. “I just want to thank God sa blessings at natapos ang tournament nga wala sang injury sa’mun.”

“Salamat gid sa tanan nga parents nga padayon gid nagasuporta sa team bisan gab-i na natapos ara gid kamo nag-antos upod sa kabataan n’yo,” the coach added.

In the semifinals round, Jiggy’s Angels prevailed over Santa Barbara team in tightly-contested game, while AC-1 eliminated its sister team in the other Final Four match.

AC-2, however, managed a bronze medal finish in the one-day tournament that drew 12 squads after beating Santa Barbara in the battle-for-third place game./ASC, WDJ
