Agcuyawan Calsada Football Club (FC) emerged as champions in the U-16 category of the Mayor JPT New Normal Football competition on Sunday, March 20, at the La Paz Football Field in Iloilo City.
Ted Baylon played the hero’s role for the Agcuyawan Calsada FC of Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo as he drained the marginal goal against fellow Barotac Nuevo club JCFC in a finale match that went to penalty shootout.
Agcuyawan Calsada FC goal keeper Steven Chua also made his presence felt by thwarting penalty kicks of the opponent while team captain JL Cañanga steadied the ship in the entire game.
Cabatuan FC, on the other hand, did not go home empty handed as they bagged the third place trophy after a 2-1 penalty shootout win over Janiuay FC.
Tamasak FC of Barotac Nuevo, meanwhile, clinched the championship in the U-19 category with a 2-1 triumph over Sta. Barbara FC.
Calinog FC, meanwhile, salvaged a bronze medal finish in the category by defeating Leganes via shootout, 2-0, in the battle-for-third place game.
La Paz Football Club (Iloilo City Sports) captured the men’s category championship as they defeated Jaro Football Club A via penalty shootout, 2-1, in a tightly-contested finale.
Cabatuan FC went home with the men’s category bronze medal after a 3-1 penalty shootout over Ilonggo United in the battle-for-third place encounter.
In the women’s category, Free Kickers FC edged Futbolilits FC (Sta. Barbara) in the finals, 1-0. Ilonggo United bagged the third place by defeating Guimbal, 1-0.
A total of 46 football teams have participated in the competition. Ten teams each in the U-16, U-19 and women’s category, while 16 squads joined the men’s category./ASC, WDJ
