The Philippine Army’s 79th Infantry (Masaligan) Battalion, headed by Lieutenant Colonel J-jay Javines, supports the peace covenant signing among local candidates in Silay City, Negros Occidental on January 28, 2022 held at the San Diego Parish Pro-Cathedral.
In attendance during the activity were Silay City police chief Lt. Col. Robert L. Petate; Atty. Ainee K Tañeza, Election Officer IV; Police Lt. Col. Jay Malong, commanding officer of the 1st NOCPMFC; Silay City Fire Marshall Fire Chief Inspector Rufin Tañedo Jr.; Joy Valla, CLGOO; Michael Thomas Valdez, vice mayoral candidate; Joedith Gallego, mayoral candidate; Silay City Vice Mayor Thomas Maynard Ledesma; Silay City Mayor Mark Andrew Arthur Golez; and Rev. Fr. Salvador Barzelona, parish priest of San Pedro Bautista, Dos Hermanas, Talisay City.
The activity ended with the releasing of doves, symbolizing the participants’ high hopes and commitment to achieve peaceful, safe and fair local and national elections come May 2022.
Peace covenant signing ceremonies were also held in the province of Negros Occidental and in the cities of Victorias and Talisay last week.
Similar activity is set to be conducted on the first week of February in the towns of EB Magalona, Toboso and Murcia.
Other remaining cities and municipalities have yet to schedule the conduct of similar undertaking./WDJ
