Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante, Jr. said he is currently torn as to which presidential candidate he would support, after the presidential candidates of the ruling PDP-Laban Senators Ronald dela Rosa and Christopher “Bong” Go withdrew their candidacies.
He is currently left to choose between Vice President Leni Robredo and former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
The mayor admitted that many people in Cadiz City are waiting for his decision as who to support for president, although his family is supporting Robredo.
“I respect their decision to choose who they want,” Escalante said.
When Robredo visited Negros, he said he was invited to meet her but he had just recovered from COVID-19.
If Marcos visits in February, he is also willing to meet and talk with him, too.
“If I make my decision and the whole city will campaign for whoever I will choose, it should not be because I just saw them on Facebook,” Escalante said.
Escalante pointed out it is unfair for the Cadiznons if he make his decision haphazardly.
He added that his decision on who to support for president carries a lot of weight.
“Our local party, the United Negros Alliance, has given us members a free hand who to support,” he said.
The mayor also said that the Marañon clan in Sagay City will support Robredo “as she is their personal friend.”/DGB, WDJ
