The recent super typhoon “Odette” caused so much damage to properties, livestock and crops. Lives were lost and many are still unaccounted specifically in Sipalay City. The southern part of Negros Occidental was badly hit, and this representation witnessed how our kababayans suffered the aftermath of “Odette.”.

Power is still unrestored considering the extent of typhoon’s damage to electrical posts. Houses were destroyed and the sad part is that they belong to the poorest of the poor wherein they cannot afford to buy materials needed to repair their houses.

But the Bayanihan spirit is very much alive during these trying times. The government is also trying its best to rectify the damage left by the typhoon. The private sector, too, is very commendable for doing an extra mile to help their kababayans.

There were also a lot of politicians who came over to help and the typhoon victims were very happy to receive food packs, rice and drinking water. One notable person who came is a native of Kabankalan City. Senator Miguel “Migz” Zubiri brought 100 cavans of rice and thousands of food stuffs. His “Operation Bulig” is not only operating in Western Visayas but also in Mindanao which was also badly hit by the typhoon.

The senator was born and raised in Kabankalan before they migrated to Bukidnon./WDJ
