NegOcc gov’t holds Int’l Migrants Day

The Negros Occidental provincial government led by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson celebrated International Migrants Day with the theme, “Harnessing the Potential of Human Mobility,” at the Capitol Social Hall on Monday morning.

The activity was spearheaded by the Provincial Committee on Migration and Development.

Lacson said the ongoing pandemic has been particularly difficult for migrant workers all over the world, thus, the call is not just for global solidarity in handling the difficulties and complications faced by migrants workers, but also for the much-needed reforms anchored on the new normal.

He assured that the provincial government will always assist the Negrense migrant workers in the face of the challenges abroad and the impact of COVID-19 pandemic.

Also present in the activity were Overseas Workers Welfare Administration OIC Regional Director Rizza Joy Moldes; Marie June Castro, Executive Assistant to the Governor; Ellene Sana, Executive Director of the Center for Migrant Advocacy; and Salvacion Barrios, president of OFW Negros Occ.
