Negrense netter Susmita Ramos scored a golden double in the women’s event of the Province of Iloilo Badminton Tournament on Sunday at the Iloilo Sports Complex.
Ramos, a varsity player of the University of the Philippines, captured the women’s singles championship after defeating fellow Negrense Mia Manguilimotan of De La Salle University in the finals.
Ilonggas Jamila Aylah Lagradante and Dianne Nichole Bolilan, meanwhile, settled for bronze medal finishes after bowing to Ramos and Manguilimotan in the semifinals round.
Ramos and Manguilimotan later teamed up to capture the gold medal in the women’s badminton doubles event as they edged Ilongga pair Lagradante and Marriane Abbygail Barcelona in the finals.
The women’s doubles team of Angelica Sison and Frances Mara Napud of Capiz, as well as the team of Trisha Postrano and Jeremy Fernandez of Negros won the bronze medal.
Bacolodnon Lance Vargas, meanwhile, ruled in the men’s singles badminton event after he scored a victory against Reignheart Kim Ga-an in the tightly-contested gold medal match.
Micah Bussey of Iloilo City and Earl Joseph Carballo of Bacolod City won the bronze medal in the said event after bowing to Vargas and Ga-an in their respective semifinals matches.
Bussey and Clark Golez, meanwhile, bounced back in the men’s badminton doubles event as they walloped Bacolod City’s Carballo and Eljee Gavile in the championship match.
Vargas failed to score a gold double as he and tandem John Ababao, as well as Ga-an and Mikko Lentija, ended up with men’s doubles bronze medals following the semifinals round defeat.
The Province of Iloilo Badminton Tournament, which was organized by the province’s sports division, was participated by 130 badminton players who were all fully-vaccinated./ASC, WDJ
