Two suspected New People’s Army (NPA) insurgents were killed after engaging in a gun battle with the Philippine Army’s 94th Infantry Battalion at Barangay Buenavista, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental on Tuesday.
Authorities have yet to identify the two slain rebels.
Brig. Gen. Inocencio Pasaporte, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, said yesterday that the 94IB troops responded to the area after receiving reports from civilians on the presence of armed NPA rebels in their community.
At least seven fully-armed NPA insurgents clashed with the 94IB and were later forced to retreat.
Recovered from the encounter site were two .45 caliber pistols, assorted explosives, and subversive documents./DGB, WDJ
