2021 PBA GOVERNORS’ CUP Phoenix rallies to beat Terrafirma

Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters used a strong fourth quarter rally to beat Terrafirma Dyip, 103-100, in the 2021 PBA Governors’ Cup yesterday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Down 90-77 with over seven minutes left, the Fuel Masters relied on reinforcements Paul Harris, Matthew Wright and Jason Perkins to tie the score at 91-all.

The Dyip regained the edge at 94-91 on a triple by Aldrech Ramos, but the Fuel Masters responded with two free throws by Harris, a triple by RJ Jazul and a conversion from Chris Banchero to take a 100-94 lead.

Terrafirma cut the deficit for the last time at 100-102 on baskets from Juan Miguel Tiongson and Alex Cabagnot before Harris increased Phoenix’s lead for good with a free throw.

Harris finished the match with double-double 24 points and 15 rebounds as the Fuel Masters tied NLEX Road Warriors and Alaska Aces on top with 1-0 win-loss slate.

Perkins and Banchero chipped in 18 markers apiece, while Wright contributed 17 points, mostly in the fourth quarter, to go with 10 assists for the Fuel Masters.

Anthonio Hester led the Dyip with double-double 28 points and 16 rebounds, while Tiongson and Cabagnot added 20 and 12 markers, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Road Warriors will aim for its second victory when it faces NorthPort Batang Pier (0-1) at three in the afternoon today.

The Aces will have the same goal when it tangles with San Miguel Beermen (0-1) in the main game at six in the evening./ASC, WDJ
