Aside from gaining much needed experience, MRT-Negros middle blocker Jian Matthew Salarzon is also looking forward to face his volleyball idols in the PNVF Champions League men’s inaugurals at the Aquamarine Recreational Center in Lipa, Batangas.
Salarzon, an 18-year old standout from Bacolod City’s Living Stone International School, is thankful for the opportunity to represent Negros Occidental in the week-long festivity.
“I’m happy and excited that this is my first
time to play here in the PNVF and get the opportunity to play against my volleyball idols,” said Salarzon.
Prior to the PNVF tournament, Salarzon had his first upclose opportunity with the men’s volleyball veterans when he took part in the PNVF indoor tryouts in Subic last April.
Salarzon showed prowess in MRT-Negros’ 25-22, 25-16, 21-25, 21-25, 15-12 triumph over Negros Oriental’s Sabong International Spikers on Monday.
The 6-foot-3 middle blocker had five blocks and three service aces to finish with 18 points to lead the offense of MRT-Negros.
Salarzon also had 14 markers, on 13 attacks and a block, during MRT-Negros’ 25-16, 22-25, 25-23, 25-20 defeat to Team Dasmariñas Monarchs on Tuesday.
Salarzon and the MRT-Negros are looking to secure a seat in the semifinals when they face Global Remit at the close of Group B matches on Wednesday night./ASC, WDJ
