A dream remains to be a dream unless you work on it. However I also agree that ambition is a much stronger feeling than a dream. A dream is something that we can idly pursue without taking any steps to achieve it. While ambition refers to someone’s desire. Along this line, these two gentlemen, Atty. Eduardo Padios and Atty. Cesar Beloria Jr., have a common desire to serve the people through the Sanguniang Panglungsod (SP) of Bacolod City. Commitment to public service knows no boundaries.
Being lawyers and members of the legislative body are an advantage. One of the advantages is that a lawyer can help develop programs, draft and interpret and legislate laws of any government unit. Being in the legislative body whose main function is to enact laws, a lawyer is highly qualified. In addition, lawyers have great communications skills and it is one fundamental level of an attorney. Lawyers communicate in a wide range of different ways. And we need lawyers in any legislative body considering their expertise in formal legal writing and discussions in official legal settings. The legal knowledge in making laws is one of the criteria and an advantage to be an effective legislator.
I’ve known Atty. Padios, a true blooded Wesnecan, during our College of Law days at the University of Negros Occidental Recoletos. He is a self-made man who came from humble beginnings. A man who can understand the predicament of people in the bottom, considering that he was once one of them. He has a lot of legislative agenda in mind.
On the other hand, I also know Atty. Beloria way before he decided to run for city councilor. Helping people in need of his legal opinion is one of his strengths. He was a working student who strived hard to become what he is now – a successful lawyer. He can be an effective legislator in the city council.
We need legislators in the city council of Bacolod like these two gentlemen who are open- minded. Their experiences and credentials can speak for themselves./WDJ
