Terrafirma Dyip guard Alex Cabagnot announced his ownership of the Bacolod squad in the upcoming Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Invitational next month.
According to the eight-time PBA champion, he currently holds the stake for the Bacolod-based squad that was previously owned by Master Sardines.
“One door closes but another opens,” Cabagnot said in an interview with Luisa Morales of Philstar.com on Thursday.
“I’m blessed to share [that] I’ve achieved a goal I never thought I would accomplish. I’m now the new owner of a team in the MPBL, Bacolod,” he added.
Watchmen Daily Journal learned from a source that local-based players will spearhead the Bacolod team in the 10-day MPBL Invitational to be held at SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
MPBL Commissioner Kenneth Duremdes welcomed Cabagnot’s ownership of a team in the league but the necessary ownership documents have yet to reach his office.
“Open arms po ang MPBL to everyone, especially to Alex,” Duremdes said in an interview with Spin.ph on Friday. “But hindi pa dumaan ‘yung ownership documents niya sa Office of the Commissioner.”
The MPBL is set to stage an invitational tournament later this year before going back to its staple home-and-away format by next year if the health situation allows./ASC, WDJ
