Engr. Mary Jane Maravilla, Information Technology Officer I of DICT-Negros Occidental said the free WiFi is a joint project of the province, DICT and San Carlos City government with the purpose of providing free internet access to people in public places.

She also mentioned that San Carlos City is among the nine cities and municipalities of Negros Occidental prioritized in this project.

She added that they have identified 116 public sites while the city government would be prioritizing the 18 barangay halls, Tech4Ed Centers and other significant public places since these areas are already capable of easier access for the installation where the estimated cost of the project can also be made easy.

Maravilla said that as of now they are trying to resolve certain issues and challenges such as areas which aren’t accessible for huge trucks that will be used during the installation and low-lying areas that might affect the internet connection./WDJ
