If you include Danjugan Island in your bucket list, rest assured your trip is worthwhile and a wonderful experience. The preservation of our remaining marine life is everybody’s immediate concern. Our trip brought added awareness that nature must be protected in order for the next generation to enjoy and experience.
My trip to Danjugan Island was made possible by my daughter and the management of the island who has a big heart. If not for their generosity the whole family will not be able to experience the beauty of untouched nature. Nature in its truest sense of the word. The island is not a resort, rather it is a privately owned conservation initiative and advocacy of Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation Inc. (PRRCFI).
The marine reserve and wildlife sanctuary island is situated three kilometers off the coast of Barangay Bulata in the municipality of Cauayan in Negros Occidental. Through the consistent advocacy of preserving the marine life and nature of PRRCFI, a non- profit, non-government organization, the nature was healed. Our almost two-day of stay in the island was not enough to explore the 43-hectare island that is 1.5 kilometers long and a half kilometer wide which has abundant marine life that has a lot of marine treasure protected and reserve for generations to come.
Local fisherfolks are prohibited to fish within the protected area since it was acquired by PRRCFI during the 1990’s. The island is strictly guarded by the local bantay dagat and the Coast Guard during night time from illegal fishing activity in order to preserve the marine life. The end result of preservation is also for the good of the fisherfolks in the neighboring area.

Aside from the marine life, the forest reserve at Danjugan island is amazing. You can experience the Philippine eagle enjoying its freedom from the destructive human being, as well as the different species of birds living in the island and a lot of pawikan enjoy their sanctuary. Your trip will be an awakening how God created this island for us to explore and enjoy.
The concept of the whole island per se is exceptionally wholesome as every undertaking and activity in it is done with great consideration of its mission and vision. Also, unlike any other islands in the Philippines, the management limits the guests to a minimal number who visit daily not just for the preservation of its serenity but for them to be able to cater and provide the visitors high quality tourism./WDJ
