Western Visayas continues to be generally peaceful as the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) reported a drop in the region’s crime volume these past 10 months.

PRO-6 said crime volume dropped by 20.02 percent or 3,512 from 17,534 incidents to 14,022 based on a comparative data covering the period from January to October 2021 compared to the same period last year.
The top three areas with the highest decrease in crime incident percentage are Iloilo City, 42.07%; Guimaras, 17.48%; and Aklan, 17.9%.
Meanwhile, the region’s eight focus crimes also decreased by 9.72 percent. For the past 10 months, there were 2,136 cases compared to the 2,366 recorded on the same period last year. The eight focus crimes are murder, homicide, physical injury, robbery, theft, rape, carnapping of motor vehicle and motorcycle.
Among these crimes, only theft increased from 424 last year to 530 this year and carnapping of motor vehicle from one case last year to six cases this year.
Meanwhile, the region’s non-index crimes reduced from 7,902 from January to October last year to 6,407 or 18.91 percent for the same period this year.
PRO-6 regional director, Police Brigadier General Rolando Miranda, commends the unit commanders in successfully reducing the crime incidents in the region.
He further encourages all units to continue performing satisfactorily in the maintenance of peace and order throughout the region./WDJ
