Negros, Iloilo on a roll in PCAP tourney

Negros Kingsmen and Iloilo Kisela Knights continued their winning ways in the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) San Miguel Corporation-Ayala Land Cup last Saturday.

The Kingsmen started the night with a close 11.5-9.5 escape over Toledo before following it up with a 15-6 domination over Camarines to improve its standings to 12-7.

The Kingsmen dominated Toledo in the blitz game, 6.5-0.5, with wins by Mari Turqueza (Board 2), Rowelyn Joy Acedo (Board 3), Jenny Mayor (Board 4), Theseus Benitez (Board 5), Rolzon Roullo (Board 6), and Adrian dela Cruz (Board 7) and draw by Randy Segarra (Board 1).

The Negrenses bowed to Toledo in the rapid event, 9-5, with only Segarra and Acedo defeating their opponents and Dela Cruz halving point with his foe.

Negros then cruised to a 5-2 blitz win over Camarines behind victories by Acedo, Mayor, Roullo, and Dela Cruz and draws from Nelson Mariano and Benitez.

The Kingsmen then completed its upset of Camarines with a 10-4 pounding in rapid games with two pointers from Segarra, Benitez, Roullo, and Dela Cruz and draws by Mariano and Acedo.

The Kisela Knights, for its part, scored a 16-5 deflating of Camarines before following it up with a 19-2 manhandling of Mindoro to stay at second place in Southern Division standings with 15-4.

Iloilo rolled to a 6-1 win over Camarines in blitz on victories by Cherry Ann Mejia (Board 3), Cesar Mariano (Board 4), Fritz Porras (Board 5), John Michael Silvederio, and Lloyd Lanciola (Board 7) and draws by Rogelio Antonio Jr. (Board 1) and Karl Victor Ochoa (Board 2).

The Kisela Knights also dominated Camarines in rapid event, 10-4, behind wins by Mejia, Silvederio and Lanciola and deadlocks by Antonio, Ochoa, Mariano, and Porras.

Iloilo showed its prowess over Mindoro in the blitz event with 7-0 shutout behind wins by Antonio, Ochoa, Mejia, Cesar Mariano, Porras, Silvederio, and Mark Mariano.
