Iloilo Kisela Knights and Negros Kingsmen swept their two matches on Wednesday night at the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) San Miguel Corporation-Ayala Land Cup.
The Kisela Knights opened the evening with a 17-4 domination over Palawan before following it up with a 13.5-7.5 triumph over Toledo for a 13-4 win-loss record in the standings.
Iloilo surged to a 5-2 win over Palawan in blitz on victories by Karl Victor Ochoa (Board 2), Cesar Mariano (Board 4), Fritz Porras (Board 5), and John Michael Silvederio and draws by Rogelio Antonio Jr. (Board 1) and Mark Mariano (Board 7).
The Kisela Knights also dominated Palawan in rapid event, 12-2, with Antonio, Ochoa, Cherry Ann Mejia (Board 3), Cesar Mariano, Porras, and Mark Mariano capturing two points each.
Against Toledo, Iloilo showed its prowess in blitz event, 5.5-1.5, behind wins by Mejia, Cesar Mariano, Porras, Silvederio, and Lloyd Lanciola (Board 7) and a draw by Ochoa.
The Kisela Knights barely defeated Toledo in the rapid event, 8-6, on two pointers by Antonio, Mejia and Silvederio and draws by Cesar Mariano and Porras.
The Kingsmen, on the other hand, scored two lopsided wins against Surigao, 16.5-4.5, and over Palawan, 17-4, to improve its standings to 10-7.
Negros edged Surigao in the blitz game, 5.5-1.5, on victories by Nelson Mariano (Board 1), Rowelyn Joy Acedo (Board 3), Jenny Mayor (Board 4), Rolzon Roullo (Board 6), and Adrian dela Cruz (Board 7) and a draw by Mari Turqueza (Board 2).
The Kingsmen dominated Surigao in rapid event, 11-3, with two pointers from Acedo, Mayor, Theseus Benitez Jr. (Board 5), Roullo, and Dela Cruz and a draw by Turqueza.
Against Palawan, Negros emerged victorious in blitz game, 5-2, on triumphs by Mariano, Mayor, Roullo and Dela Cruz and draws by Turqueza and Acedo.
The Kingsmen also won its rapid event matches against Palawan, 12-2, on wins by Mariano, Turqueza, Mayor, Benitez, and Dela Cruz and draws by Acedo and Roullo./ASC, WDJ
