La Castellana Mayor Rhumyla Nicor-Mangilimutan said yesterday that the death of her mother, the late Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) President Noime Nicor, has triggered a higher vaccination rate for the municipality.

Magilimutan said the utilization of vaccines in the town has become higher and they hope to hit the target based on their projection.

“Before when we are given 150 doses, only 80 were utilized but at present many are queuing to get vaccinated,” she pointed out.

The mayor said her mother was unvaccinated and that her doctor told them that she may have been saved from COVID-19 if she was vaccinated.

“It served as a lesson that getting vaccinated can save from COVID death,” she added.

Aside from Nicor who died on October 11 at the South Bacolod General Hospital, Mangilimutan revealed that barangay kagawad Mario Solar, who was also unvaccinated, also died of COVID-19.

At present, more than 11,000 residents of La Castellana are fully vaccinated or around 20% of the 79,000 targeted population for vaccination./DGB, WDJ
