A 40-year-old woman – an employee of the San Carlos City government – was shot to death around 7:48 a.m. on Monday, October 18, at FC Ledesma Avenue in Barangay Palampas, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

Police identified the victim as Maria Elena Peque, a resident of Pili Street, San Julio Subdivision in the city’s Barangay 2.

She sustained a gunshot wound on her ear and was rushed to the San Carlos City Hospital where the attending physician declared her dead-on-arrival.

San Carlos City police investigation revealed that Peque was riding on a tricycle on her way to the city hall when she was shot. The unidentified gunman immediately fled to an unknown direction, police added.

As of this writing, San Carlos City police have yet to identify the suspect and the motive in the killing./WDJ
