1 dead, 1 hurt as truck catches fire in Cadiz

A truck helper died while the driver was injured after a Canter truck loaded with around 100 gasoline tanks caught fire while traversing along the national highway at Hacienda Omapog, Barangay Luna in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental early morning yesterday.

Fire Officer 1 Gerald Bugtong, arson investigator of the Cadiz City Fire Station, said the fatality was only identified as certain “Romnick,” 20, of Sagay City. His body was beyond recognition, Bugtong said.

Driver John Vincent Recto, 25, a resident of Escalante City, sustained second and third degree burns. He was recuperating at the Cadiz City Emergency Clinic.

Authorities said the truck owned by John Isubal of Sagay City was reportedly bound for Sagay.

Bugtong said the estimated cost of damage reached P370.000.

Cadiz City Fire Station was investigating the incident as of this writing./WDJ
