The city government of San Carlos in Negros Occidental commemorated the National Heroes Day yesterday morning at the city’s Rizal Square.

Mayor Renato Y. Gustilo and Vice Mayor Christopher Paul S. Carmona along with Sangguniang Panlungsod members and local department heads including members of the San Carlos City Police Station, Bureau of Fire Protection-San Carlos, Department of Education officials and representatives of various sectors offered flowers at the foot of the statue of the Unknown Soldier.
Gustilo urged everyone to offer prayers and give thanks to the fallen heroes as they fought and died to achieve freedom and independence which the present generation of Filipinos is experiencing right now.
The National Heroes Day or Araw ng mga Bayani is an annual celebration pursuant to the Republic Act No. 9492, declaring the last Monday of August of every year as an official national holiday that honors all the known and unsung heroes of the Philippines who have fought for the nation’s freedom./WDJ
