At least 10 people are currently being investigated over the theft of 1,495 sacks of fertilizer which were given to the city government of Himamaylan in Negros Occidental.
Mayor Raymund Tongson said the probe was made following the formation of the city’s investigation team, although he has asked for another few days before releasing their findings.
Tongson stated he does not want the program for the local farmers to be stopped, he has instead used his own money in order to buy the fertilizer and give it to the farmer beneficiaries who were unable to claim the assistance.
He said 8,500 of the 10,000 sacks of fertilizer allocated to the farmer beneficiaries by the Department of Agriculture have already been distributed.
The said sacks of fertilizer were stored at a private warehouse in front of the Himamaylan City Hall and is currently being guarded by warehouse personnel with coordination from the city government./DGB, WDJ
